Industial F**king Strength

Compilation by Lenny Dee

(c)(p)1996 Earache Records

Review by Neil St.Laurent

Don't be mislead by the title (which incidentally continues to use the *'s even inside the CD insert), this CD is generally hardcore techno. I'm not exactly sure how this managed to appear on Earache, not quite sure what those people are up to lately though.

Being techno, being that my experience with it is limited, and being that most of the readers of this magazine probably don't listen to much techno, a normal review is pointless. As with most hardcore (techno that is) that album is relatively intense and continually pounding -- never really to an extreme, death metal is by far a lot faster and more aggressive. The selection of tracks are decent, giving quite a few different influences and stylistic differences; be forewarned of the dance-like vocals on a few of the tracks though.

In addition to the 15 selections is a second disk that has two DJ hardcore mixes. These are quite nice, but they are relatively non-intense.

If you haven't listened to hardcore before then you may wish to pick these CDs up to see if you like it or not (as a bonus you won't have to leave the metal section of the record store to find it). Otherwise it's a decent set, but there are better ones out there.
