Diesel

Demo 1997

Review by Neil St.Laurent

Thanks to Ayres Rock Mgmt. for the Cassette

Diesel is a four-piece that comes to us from Los Angeles. This Demo is a followup to their previous 6-song demo, which has received significant industry praise.

Akin to Crowbar (a very popular comparison for the band), the music is comprised of the assaulting low end guitars and a very hoarse vocal style. Guitar fare so chunky and abrasive that the occassions of melody come across as a grating attack on the senses, in the most positive sense possible. While generally a mid-tempo aggression the crunchy guitaring occassionally pumps out a bit more with their speedy refrains, albeit very short.

While not taking a path different from that of existing musical styles, Diesel certainly approaches this extreme genre with a very powerful mixture of musicianship and desire to be extremely harsh. Extremely impressive for an unsigned band.
