Agoraphobic Nosebleed

Honky Reduction

1998 Relapse Records

Review by Don Stenhouse

Thanks to Relapse for the CD

Piloted by Scott Hill and a drum machine along with Jay Randall on vocals, Agoraphobic Nosebleed take hardcore and a drum machine to new heights. The guitars and bass (also played by Hill) are relentless. Pounding on your head like a hammer, Hill programs some very aggresive drum licks which work very well with such short songs.

Given this is the work of just two guys, Honky Reduction is definitely very hardcore. It is also nice to see that drum machines can be used to induce violence, very refreshing. [Editor's Note: I presume Don has not yet listened to Samael's album, Passage!]

The only problem with this disc is the shortness of the songs. Even just a minute or a minute and a half, just a bit more time to get cruising around would be an improvement. Otherwise this is a well produced piece of material worthy of any hardcore fan's collection. Very brutal and aggressive, just the way we like it. 26 songs of pure anger from "Die" and "Get the Fuck Out of the Way" and "Her Despair Reeks of Alcohol" to "Torn Apart by Dingos" and "Two Shits to the Moon", this disc does not let up.

Agoraphobic Nosebleed will slaughter and devour the drunken masses. I am sure they will be responsible for a lot of destruction of their fans private property and all others propery in their paths. True Grindcore.

Agoraphobic Nosebleed are:
Scott Hill- Guitar, Bass, Drum Machine
Jay Randall - Vocals
