Cessation Of Life

Cessation Of Life

1997

Review by Neil St. Laurent

Thanks to the band for the cassette

This self-titled 4-song demo comes to us from band, Cessation Of Life. It immediately opens with an energetic and varied approach. A combination of pounding drums and at times a weird melody from the bass gives a place for the dual guitarwork of Chris and Travis to provide the emotional context of the music. Surprisingly, for a demo quality recording, no instrument is diminished and each holds its own within the music very clearly.

"Angel Of Mercy", the second song, starts out as a very classic metal slow song of sorts, complete with straining, clean vocals It is the additional variations on vocals that help make Cessation an enjoyable listen, ranging from the aforementioned quieter vocals, to screaming, and at some points a bit of death growling (but not much).

Curious song structures, rich mixing, and an energetic approach make Cessation Of Life an all around good band.

Cessation of Life is:
Chris Cronkite - Vocals
Chris Cromelin - Lead & Rhythm Guitar
Travis Anderberg - Lead & Rhythm Guitar
Ron Ostlund - Drums
Jon Du Bose - Bass
