Inverted
There Can Be Only One
1998 Shiver Records
Review by Don Stenhouse
Thanks to Shiver Records for the CD
Rising from the blackest pits of Sweden [Editor's note: Are the
pits in Sweden especially black?], Inverted just released an
excellent Death Metal album at what seems to be a propicious time to
release this brutal type of material. This album gets better with
each listen. Patrik Svensson’s vocals are undeniably death, hitting
the lows and highs of each tune perfectly, bringing out the evil for
all too enjoy. Johan Ohlsson's guitar work is complex, heavy and
interesting to listen to, followed by the pounding back beat
of Joel Anderson on bass and Kristian Hasselhun on drums.
This is a strong album from the first notes of Revenge to the last
beat of Wrath of Sin. There is enough variety here to keep the
listener captivated. My favorite track is As The Last Angel Falls,
with catchy riffing which nevertheless never lets up on
brutality.
The only thing wrong with this album is that the production is
a little raw, but any true Death fan could get over that easily.
This a definite must for your collection, so go to the church,
rob the collection plate and go out and snag the new Inverted CD.
You will not be disappointed.
