Superhighway Carfire

Defective Immediately

(c)1997 Infernal Racket Records

Review by Neil St.Laurent

Thanks to Infernal Racket Records for the CD

One can't help but to wonder where this band got its name from.

"Defective Immediately" is a six song recording just over 18 minutes long. An energetic quartet that is surely the life of any party, these guys have put together a very different collection of music and may leave you wondering why you haven't heard of them before.

It is so tempting to want to call this band extreme, but the fact is that while it maintains the energy typically reserved for the extreme bands, it makes use of only a collection of metal, punk, and alternative styles. Sporatic riffs of varying influence combined with some varying effects make for an interesting experience. And each to its own, the instruments either work in harmony producing a catchy sound, or are rather discordant in order to produce an energy in the listener.

In question is how the components of each song belong together, it sometimes sounds like a provoked war between two distinct jamming bands, yet at the same time there is some binding quality. Needless to say the result is more often than not, very noisy -- which is lent to even more by the screaming of the vocalist.

Judging by my indecision on how to describe or evaluate the music, it is quite conceivable that if you don't like this album, you'll absolutely hate it; there doesn't seem to be much room for mediocre interest. If you need something a little different then consider this band, who's name is as confusing as the music, Superhighway Carfire.

Superhighway Carfire is:
Scrappy - Vocals
Mick Mullin - Guitar, Bass
Randy Garvine - Guitar
Dan Ballinger - Drums
