Avulsed

Cybergore

1998 Repulse Records

Review by Neil St.Laurent

Thanks to Repulse America for the CD

There is often great anticipation for the release of a remix album from a band, and other times there is often great fear. In the case of Avulsed's remix album, "Cybergore" there is going to be a very definite split to the response; despite how heavy and brutal, this techno remix will not likely please a lot of fans.

Since Avulsed however had no real memorable style of their own, these remixes actually become a greater release for the band than their previous album was. Don't think that this will sound anything similar to the industrial remixes of bands like Fear Factory, for in any angle of viewing "Cybergore" it is pure brutal techno, in a fashion similar to hardcore. There isn't much originality in song structure obviously, but it is quite different to hear extreme death riffs sampled and thrown back with typical techno beats. Definitely a lot of adrenaline pumping energetic action within this release, sure to please any raver out there.

There really isn't that much to say about this release, it's techno with death metal samples. If you are looking for original music of this vein, which is not simply rehashed material, check out Think About Mutation. For those that entirely dislike techno, stay far far away from this release. And for those that enjoy techno, this is really a great experience to find out what death metal techno sounds like.
