Whispers In Nameless Form

Review by Neil St.Laurent

Thanks to Intromental Management for the CD

As the variety and number of black metal bands grows, it becomes unfortunately easier to label new bands, or existing ones, with the label and simply give no further consideration to the music. And while Abdunor, with the shrieking and female vocals combined with cacophonous riffing, are not powerful enough to break this molding, they are certainly worthy of further inspection.

"Whispers In Nameless Form" contains three songs at a total of just under 20 minutes. This is long enough to give you a general idea of what the band sounds like. They play a dark atmospheric style of black metal, closer to the likes of Rotting Christ than Cradle Of Filth, but they do use female vocals at time (and other than the guest performance of Katrine Rasmussen, Abdunor is a two piece outfit). Given the range of styles though, from the silent low rumblings, or eerie moods, to the blistering drums and riffing, combined with the imaginative world of the lyrics, "Abdunor" is most similar to Ophthalamia.

So if you enjoy complex black metal styles, or simply enjoy a range of atmosphere and music, Abdunor should appeal to you.
