Gooseflesh

Welcome To The Suffer Age

(c)(p)1998 Goldtrack Records

Review by Neil St.Laurent

Thanks to Goldtrack for the CD

Sweden is well known for their extreme metal acts, and the particular brand of death metal that is very popular today. A slight change to the pace comes "Gooseflesh", a four-piece that is being labelled as "Crossover Metal".

Whether the term crossover really applies is not for sure, but what is certain is that Gooseflesh serve up a very heavy and moderately intense brand of metal that at times sounds like Crowbar and has various elements that remind one of the band Sacrifice. Driven by distorted guitar, no surprise here, the music is very melodic, and although it doesn't offer anything new in terms of structure or riffing style, it is nonetheless pleasing to listen to. That is, of course, the overall feeling that comes from the album: a combination of existing styles and techniques played well and offering quasi-original material.

The production quality of the recording is very good, so there is nothing that one can really complain about. While it may not be an experimental or progressive work, it certainly is good. Gooseflesh is doing their part to keep this kind of music alive and healthy.

Gooseflesh is:
Robert Hakemo - Bass, Backing Vocals
Lars Berger - Drums
Kristian Lampila - Guitars, Lead Vocals
