Lesser Known

Inner Beast

(c)(p)1998 LKE Entertainment Group

Review by Neil St.Laurent

Thanks to LKE for the CD

Lesser Known comes to us from Eastern Canada with this full length release, "Inner Beast", which has been influenced by about any band that you can think of, which results in a very original, yet familiar sounding recording.

It is difficult to classify this band, for the wide spectrum of influences can easily include bands like Alice In Chains, Days Of The New, Clutch, Life Of Agony or even Madball, but has an overall strong Tool feel to it (more in unusual song structure and album progression than in actual musical style). Although ranging from the quiet acoustic guitar sounds to the growling death style vocals, it is difficult to say that "Inner Beast" has any particular emotional quality, yet at times it can be very atmospheric and emotionally driving. Spaz, on vocal duties, is one of the few that can actually adequately do all the vocal requirements for this type of recording, far too often the vocalist falls short on one the styles -- mind you, Spaz doesn't really manage to go beyond "adequate" in his performance.

It is difficult to go beyond such a simple analysis for such a diverse sounding album. Many of the songs are very interesting, and others are definitely very boring, but depending on the listener the actual names of those songs will vary. So while the music is good, there just isn't a feeling of an album here, it'd be difficult to say that Lesser Known have any particular style. Hard to say, good recording, but it sounds like a compilation.

Lesser Known is:
Cory Chauvin - Guitars
Paul Turgeon - Drums
Spaz - Vocals
Roger Beaudrry - Bass
