Suicide Culture

s/t (Demo 1998)

Review by Neil St.Laurent

Thanks to the band for the cassette

This demo comes to us from a Seattle band, Suicide Culture, who presents us with their form of Slayer influenced metal. That is, the music is heavy and intense, and the song structure, particularly vocal delivery, bears strong resemblance to Slayer at one point or another in that band's career. The music, independent of influences, is a guitar driven aural assault focusing on aggression and power over anything else. However, the riffing is a little bit too repetitive, or overly simple, to continually hold your attention and get you involved in the music. In this sense the vocals give significant value to the music, and while they are a very good fit with the music, they could be a little more forceful in their delivery -- beyond that of simply changing the mixing.

This short demo should, with all things considered, definitely leave you wanting to hear more, and we should be hoping for a followup, preferably in the form of a full-length album.
