Upon first listening to this CD you may catch the well played death metal that you are hearing or it might just fly past without much notice, but play it on a decent sounding system and turn up the volume and the Obscenity experience should be more enjoyable. Obscenity play pure unadulterated death metal with their own unique elements of course, such as the use of female vocals on the first track. That's been done before but this is the first I have heard it on such a straight forward death metal release and it sounds really cool. The style of music displayed on "The 3rd Chapter" is what I'm going to call borderline brutal death metal, the guitar sound, drums, and vocals are quite aggressive but the actual riffs being played do let up a bit. I suppose that is another distinct thing about Obscenity, the riffs touch on being melodic at times or even having a more 'plain' metal sound(kind of like what Benediction does). Do not get the wrong idea though, because "The 3rd Chapter" certainly is not mellow by any means. The vocals are just to brutal and the drums to punishing to be considered mellow. This band is quite talented in that they know how to play their instruments well and the music is very tight, mostly due to the very solid drumming (great job done on drums, awesome blasts) and the arrangements are well done. As I mentioned before their is that possibility their music won't make an impact, and this band will not get much recognition, but I would highly recommend Obscenity to those who still crave the metal of death. I think they would have sounded better if they went for a more brutal style though, maybe next time.
